题目: Understanding human decision making from the lens of value signals in the human brain

摘要信息:Computation of value information is critical to human decision making. How our brain represents and computes value signals that are critical for decision making has received increasing attention over the past few years. In this talk, I will report two of my recent studies investigating the role of the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) in representing such signals in humans. In the first study, we used intracranial EEG (iEEG) to investigate the temporal dynamics of expected value, risk and experienced value coding in the human orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). This study, for the first time, provides electrophysiological evidence for the temporal dynamics of these value signals and the distributions of such signals in the human OFC. In the second study, we used Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to investigate whether an antero-posterior gradient of experienced value representations within the human orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) corresponding to secondary vs primary rewards depended on specific morphological features within this region which displays considerable intersubject variability. We found that the localizations of distinct experienced value signals can be predicted from the organization of the human orbitofrontal sulci. Together, these two series of studies advance our understanding on new aspects of the role of the human OFC in computing value information that is required for human decision making.
