报告摘要:Executive function (EF) refers to the goal-oriented ability to monitor and manage various cognitive processes, including inhibitory control, working memory and switching. It has been theorized that children with autism have deficits in executive functioning. However, there are still considerable discrepancies in empirical findings. We used an approach which simultaneously manipulates different EF processes in the same experimental paradigm to more purely measure specific EFs. The results showed that the newly designed Simon task and Go/No-Go task appropriately measured inhibitory control and working memory in young children. We further used this newly developed paradigm to examine the impaired characteristics of high-functioning autistic children in interference inhibition, response inhibition, and flexible cognitive control. It was found that high-functioning children with autism were not impaired on these components of cold EFs compared with age- and IQ-matched typically developing children.
